AmericanGift Knitting started with a contest on my website, PlanetPurl.com, inviting knitters to submit small project designs for gift-giving, inspired by their favorite places in the United States. I expected a lot of entries and wasn’t disappointed. After all, we knitters love to make gifts. That’s what children and grandchildren, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, parents and grandparents are for, after all. The bigger the family, the better the excuse to buy yarn and knit, knit, knit.
Neither was I surprised by how the beauty of this country sparks American knitters’ imaginations. Like many knitters, I find myself looking at railings, buildings, flowers, bridges, carpets, wallpaper, upholstery and thinking, “Oh that (design/color palette/texture) would make a beautiful (sweater/shawl/cap/pillow).” In this second book of my “American Knitting” series, you’ll find twenty lovely examples of how the world around us can be transformed into a handknit gift for someone you love. Happy knitting and gifting!
